Synthetic Canes
Synthetic canes, or man-made canes, are any type of cane made up of a non-naturally occurring material such as nylon, fiberglass, or lucite. Synthetic canes are non-porous, which prevents fluid absorption and makes them easy to clean with alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, household bleach, or a medical grade disinfectant.
Fiberglass canes
Fiberglass canes are the most common type of man-made canes, and are usually fairly inexpensive. They are flexible and lightweight canes with a “whippy” quality. The density of a fiberglass cane makes it a very serious impact toy. It very easy to break the skin accidentally, so caution is advised for beginners. Cheap fiberglass canes are often made of a low-grade fiberglass that can shed fibers which may embed themselves in the skin. Run your fingers up and down the cane to check for splinters, fragments, and rough edges. If you find any, discontinue its use.
Nylon canes
Nylon is another type of synthetic cane that is extremely durable and easy to clean. Nylon has the ability to be very lustrous, semi-lustrous, or dull, offering a variety of appearance and design. Nylon canes are made up of high tenacity fibers, making it highly resilient and resistant to mold, mildew, fungi, and many chemicals. As with fiberglass canes, the density of a nylon cane can make it very easy to damage your bottom unintentionally and caution is advised.
