Wood canes
When you think of punishment canes, you probably imagine a slender wooden cane. Most people do. Canes used for discipline and punishment have historically been made of wood, and there is something inherently elegant and classic about a wooden cane. The effect of wood canes can vary greatly depending on the length, diameter, type of wood, and even the finish.
Varnished wooden canes VS natural wooden canes
Wooden canes may be either left in their natural state or coated with some type of varnish. Unvarnished canes are easier to soak or steam when they become dry and brittle, which makes them more likely to break. Varnishing a wooden cane will enhance the natural beauty of the wood, but there are other advantages as well. Varnished canes are easier to clean should you get any body fluids on them, but require more effort to steam or soak when they become dry. If you get body fluids on an unvarnished cane, that cane should not be used on another person.
Rattan canes
Rattan is naturally flexible, durable and resistant to splintering, making it an excellent wood for discipline canes. A benefit of rattan canes is that if a break does occur during play, the rattan will break clean across. This prevents any unintentional breaking of the skin on your submissive. Rattan was widely used in English schoolroom disciplines, known for employing the cane when administering corporal punishment. Rattan canes are commonly used in judicial canings in countries like Singapore and Malaysia. It was a rattan cane that sparked an international diplomatic crisis when American teenager Michael P. Fay was caned in 1994.
Bamboo canes
Bamboo is a very lightweight wood that becomes very hard and exceptionally durable when treated. Those concerned about environmental matters will be happy to know that your bamboo cane is Eco-friendly! Bamboo is grown without pesticides or fertilizers, making it naturally organic. It is considered to be the fastest growing plant in the world, is purely rain-fed and requires little water, and produces 35% more oxygen than the same amount of trees. Bamboo canes break lengthwise, which leaves a very sharp edge that can cut your submissive’s bottom if the caning continues. If your bamboo cane breaks or splits even a sight bit, discontinue it’s use immediately.
Leather canes
Leather canes are standard rattan canes that have been wrapped in a tight leather covering. The leather alleviates the sting of the cane and dulls the “bite”, creating a sensation that is very different from a wooden or synthetic cane. Although leather canes tend to be more expensive, they make an excellent addition to a cane connoisseur’s collection.
